Chang Deok-gung(Palace)

Chang Deok -gung is a palace of Joseon Dynasty located in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is an example of comprehensive environmental design in which architecture and landscaping are well harmonized, and at the same time, it is an important cultural heritage that allows us to read the Korean atmosphere of space.

In the early 15th century, it was built as a second palace to the east of Gyeonbokgung Palace, the main palace, Accordingly, there were differences from Gyeongbokgung Palace in its original purpose and location within the capital city.

The place where Changdeokgung Palace is located is a hilly terrain and there are not many flat places, According to geomancy, the palace buildings were placed in the southern part of the precinct using this irregular topography, and a back garden, also called Biwon, was created in the northern wide hill.

Because the building was built using the natural topography, it has the characteristics of being in excellent harmony with the surrounding environment, breaking away from the typical formality of palace architecture.
